An integral part of the Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) project is the planned or of its next generation, which will be brought together by the European Strategic Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI). ELI will be the first facility in the world that will enable the study of the interaction of light and matter at higher intensities than ever before, even in the so-called ultra-relativistic range.
This will open up new avenues in physics, as well as lay the foundation for new technical developments such as relativistic microelectronics and compact (desktop-sized) laser particle accelerators. ELI will have a significant impact on many fields of materials science, medicine and environmental protection. Source: portfolio.hu
